Occupational and hand therapy uses rehabilitative and therapeutic techniques as well as functional tasks to help patients achieve maximum function possible following injury or surgery.

Occupational therapists have special training in treating patients with hand, upper extremity, sports and work-related injuries. Our occupational therapy personalized rehabilitation programs include:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Finger Fractures
  • Hand and Wrist Injuries and Fractures
  • Joint Injuries
  • Nerve Injuries and Surgeries
  • Post-Operative Rehabilitation for Upper Extremity Injuries
  • Sports Injuries
  • Tendonitis and Arthritis of the Hand, Wrist and Elbow
  • Trigger Finger
  • Work-Related Injuries

Our Occupational Therapy department has rehabilitative equipment to help the patient regain maximum physical and functional use of their extremity. The treatment area is specially designed for patients needing therapy for hand, upper body, sport, and work-related injuries. The gym and exercise area can also be used to further assist recovery.

From the first visit, our therapist will determine the best plan of care based on the physician's orders and the patient's physical and functional needs. The occupational therapist will use the following to achieve the therapy goals:

  • Cold Laser Therapy
  • Custom Splint Fabrication
  • Function-Based Activities (patient-specific)
  • Home Programs
  • Job or Sport Simulation
  • Manual Therapy Techniques
  • Physical Agent Modalities (heat, cold, etc.)
  • Range of Motion Exercises
  • Strengthening Exercises
  • Scar Management

Our goal at Texas Sports Medicine Center is to treat the whole person, not just the injury. We realize that a patient's entire life is affected when an injury occurs. That is why we make our goals for rehabilitation the same as the patient's.
